Twirl 0.9.5 Release Notes - November, 1999

Basics

This is a very early release able to successfully parse and display at least some VRML 2.0 files. It is pretty stable and very limited in capability.

This version parses though and builds a scene graph from select VRML 2.0 files and then presents a 3D interactive window rendering it. PROTO (prototypes) and Script Nodes are not supported. Only Cylinder, Box, and IndexedFaceSet nodes are actually rendered. Currently ROUTE descriptors and Material nodes are ignored.

The comma, period and arrow keys allow reorienting the view. Keys S and R keys toggle autospin and zoom.

New in Version 0.9.5:

Group node enabled! DEF and USE support improved.

Minimum Requirements

PowerMac, QD3D 1.5.4 (QuickTime 3.0), System 7.5.3 or later.

Known Issues

1) As of MacOS 8, under certain situations Twirl may pause an open 3D window after a few seconds until mouse or keyboard activity occurs. With OS 7.5.X, a foreground open 3D window animates without stop. This appears to be an MacOS 8 issue and is being looked into.

2) Apple Event Quit not recognized. If Twirl is running in background when a system shutdown is initiated, shutdown will be blocked until Twirl is manually quit.
